BIO

Dr. Jo Goossens is an experienced industrial marketer and business developer and has profound knowledge of the food ingredient industry. His main interest is in the marketing/research interface where he can combine his thorough scientific comprehension with business interests and strategic analysis. He enjoys interacting in international and multi-cultural environments.

Jo obtained a MSc and a PhD in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry from the University of Leuven in Belgium in 1985. He started his industrial career with CPC INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS as a Senior Research Specialist in enzymology and biotechnology. Later, as a Project Leader at the CERESTAR R&D Center, he initiated and managed several innovative projects of which the revolutionary low calorie bulk sweetener erythritol was a prominent milestone.

In 1990 he joined the CERESTAR headquarters in Brussels as Marketing Manager for the global confectionery and drinks markets and continued to steer CERESTAR’S new product and business development. He also set up the Japan sales office and stimulated the creation of a range of speciality products for the sugar-free and low calorie markets.

In 1999, he set up and headed the HEALTH & NUTRITION GROUP, a new business unit to develop and market the functional food ingredients on behalf of the ERIDANIA BÉGHIN-SAY group companies. As Director Health & Nutrition he successfully developed the European and N-American business and committed a significant research programme to substantiate the nutritional benefits of a range of new ingredients.

Jo set up his own consultancy company BIO-SENSE in 2002, focussing on new business development in the functional food and ingredient markets and advising with strategy, marketing and communication expertise. He brings a long and international experience in project and market management and especially in the delicate processes at the marketing/R&D interface where new businesses are born.

As of January 2004, Jo is also partner of GIRACT, the leading Geneva-based business research and consultancy company specialising in food ingredients, additives and related technologies worldwide.

Jo puts all his energy and creativity in his work, his wife and 2 daughters. Any free time he spends mountaineering, travelling and photographing in the great outdoors. Music, books and yoga are his favourite ways to relax. Jo speaks four languages.
